As per the survey taken in 2007, it was estimated that 650 million civilians held guns in the world. The numbers are exponentially increasing over the years, as there are vast uses of having guns. People buy guns and use them for sports, events, hunting purposes, recreation matters, and self-defence. But on the other hand, having a lot of guns doesn’t mean the Country’s government feels happy about it.

The ownership of guns in Japan is a very rare thing.

1. The United States of America

Gun shows happen every month or week in America. It includes 805 licensed Gun stalls for sale and just 20% of stalls are private sellers. Private sellers usually don’t undergo background checking. It’s basically very easy to buy a gun in black in the US. Around 1/3rd of the population of America owns guns without undergoing background checks. These populations always purchase their guns from private sellers at reasonable prices.

Multiple checkups and restrictions are undertaken by the United States of America on Gun buyers.

Usually, instant background checkups consider the buyer’s immigration status, domestic violence, and any crimes done in the past.

2. Japan

Japan is the strictest against gun regulations and safety issues. As a Japanese citizen, you need to bind their gun laws. There’s a firearm class and exam to appear. It occurs three times per year. Get your health background checkups from your doctor. If the reports are fine then move to get a training permit. You need to describe the reason for acquiring a gun in your name to the police. Get a review from officials about your criminal history, domestic violence, employment, family history etc.

Later you need to apply for a gunpowder permit too. There’s a license for different purposes of buying a gun. If you need a gun for hunting then you can opt for a hunting license. You need to compulsorily take the gun training class and pass the firing test. Need to buy a storage rack and ammunition locker. After dealing with all this a second review is done on the buyer. After approving it the buyer can now buy the gun.

3. New Zealand

Approving gun licenses takes weeks or months in New Zealand. Background checkups like criminal history, domestic violence, mental health etc. You need to provide character references.

4. India

Gun Laws are strict in India. You need to join a gun training or shooting club to acquire a gun in your name. Else there’s another way to show that your property and you are under threat so you need to have a gun on the basis of safety issues. But according to local authorities, certain laws may change or be enforced. In India, you need to undergo background checkups like criminal history, health checkups, domestic violence and sometimes interviews with you and your family. After ensuring all this from you, they will allow you to buy a gun.

5. Mexico

Mexico allows least gun owners for the purpose of self-protection. Also, foreigners are allowed to buy a  firearm legally in Mexico. And also they need to present the background checkups along with the details as a foreigner to the government officials. The secretaria de Defensa Nacional SEDENA manages the gun licenses of Mexico.

6. Australia

Australia comes under one of the strictest gun laws and has a license. You can not own a firearm for the purpose of self-protection.  Gun licenses are categorized into various classes according to their usage. The process is very long. You can use the category firearm for the purpose of sports and target shooting. However, you can not use it on private properties unless it’s approved. You can use that much shooting range which is approved for your class category.

7. Austria

In Austria, self-defence is considered a legal purpose to buy a gun. They can buy firearms according to certain classes of rifles and shotguns. You can approximate about 30 civilian firearms per 100 people to get a view of gun handling culture in Austria.

8. Canada

Canada ranks 5th highest in Gun per capita among developed nations. The buying number of AR15s and some handguns are doubled in Canada. This is because of the growing recreational popularity among them. In order to own a gun you need to have a firearm license it is known as a possession and acquisition license. It is necessary to get a government safety course before buying a gun. There’s nothing like guns for self-defence, it is not legal to shoot anybody in self-defence. Such matters are to be resolved under court sessions.

9. South Africa

South Africa Government authorities focus on reducing the availability of guns.

Because they guarantee that reducing gun availability will lower the crimes and deaths of the people. Thus the majority of South Africans do not own guns. South Africa’s past, present and future and sometimes politics influences the firearm laws and ownerships. For a population of about 50 million-plus, the total number of firearm handling individuals is 3 million. About 500,000 firearms are for the military and police. South Africa has its national register of firearms which always issues licenses to individuals who register to buy one.

There’s a punishment for using unlicensed firearms that is a fine or imprisonment of up to 15 years. To buy a firearm you need to pass a competency test first then submit the license application on the gun you want to buy. Go to a shooting range for practice. For self-defence, you will own only one handgun or one shotgun. And not a semi auto shotgun. Also, the self-defence licenses are valid for 5 years and after that, you need to renew them. For sporting use, you can apply for a license through the national sports association. You could get a semi-auto like an AK47 or even a pistol.

1. Browning Lever Action Rifle

It is also called BLR. Do you want a modern cartridge?  BLR is a modern action gun as it has a detachable box magazine. The box magazine can consist of four pointed bullets. Such is not possible with a tubular magazine. It comes with full fledged features. It has a rack and pinion lever, thus it is extremely smooth. For a nice look and lightweight, it has an aluminium alloy receiver. It also has a hammer with a fold down for extra safety. The rifle has a bolt that locks up into a barrel extension.

Where the size of the rifle is an issue, you have a takedown model for this rifle. Just pull it and it turns into half size.

2. Henry Side Gate Lever Action Rifle

It is the very first rifle that has a side loading gate feature. It uses 3855 cartridges. Such cartridges are very good for cowboy action shooters. This cartridge is very well rounded and introduced in 1876. To make this rifle’s side gate receiver, Henry made it as strong as steel as it is made up of brass. It supports a 20-inch blue barrel. The rifle holds five rounds and one in a chamber. This rifle has buckhorn sights to watch the target through it. It also has ivory beads instead of brass in the front notch of the rifle. But the butt plate of the rifle is of brass one. Also has a brass barrel strap. The Henry Side Gate Lever Action has beautiful American walnut wood and has tight laser checkering on the forearm of the stock and also on the rear. It also has a second magazine, thus it is one of the safest Side Gate Lever Action Rifles.

3. Winchester Model 1866 Lever Action Short Rifle

It was first created in 1866.  Winchester used old Henry and improvised it by adding a loading gate. Now the shooter can run rounds up into the tubular magazine. Your fingers won’t get burned while handling the barrel of this rifle. It is a repeating rifle that doesn’t require muzzle loading, no more single shots. And it has a brass receiver ie. yellow in colour. It is well chambered for something that’s ebay to set and easy to fire the 38 special. Sometimes this rifle can be used for hunting purposes. You would get much greater ballistics than you would with a handgun. This ammunition is inexpensive and a well-balanced rifle.

4. Marlin Dark Model 336

The model we have is a 16.25” barrel with a threaded muzzle. It is Parkerized with a black finish. At the butt end, it has black webbed Hardwood Stock. It has an XS Lever rail with ghost-ring sight. Also has chambered in 30-30 WIN and includes a Paracord sling. The trigger hold includes a big loop lever with Paracord wrap so as to comfort your fingers. It is shiny and pitches black in colour. Marlin Model 336 Dark suffers because of its shooting accuracy.  It happens largely due to mediocre triggers.

Are you planning to buy a firearm or a simple handgun? If yes, then it’s all your responsibility to handle it safely. As you know any type of firearm, whether it is in small size or large, both have the same threat. Firearms have the tremendous potential for destruction. You should be serious while handling such arms. It should be handled by the trainers only.

Non trained people like youngsters, children and old people should be away from such firearms. If you are carrying a firearm, always keep such firearms away from unknown targets. Rather than placing it somewhere in the open area of your home. Place such a firearm in your safety locker. Are you unsure about the safe storage place for your firearm in your home? Then you may request your firearm trainer to have a storage place for it.

This guide is for the readers who are beginners as firearm handlers and enthusiastic ones. This guide shares about how to practice good gun safety. Also get to know how you should handle, own, shoot, and carry a firearm.

Thus, these 4 basic principles help to tremendously lower future unwanted accidents.

Here are the basic and common-sense rules for firearm safety :

1. Assume your guns are always loaded

The first rule is to treat your firearm as if it is loaded already. Whenever you handle the gun, you should follow this first rule. Accepting and following this rule strictly will ensure the potential threat and harm in the surrounding area. Have this knowledge of potential destruction while handling any firearm. It is your responsibility if someone gets killed or some unnecessary circumstances happen. So you need to conduct yourself accordingly.

Also before giving your gun to a firearm cleaning authority you should ensure that it should be safe. In order to make your gun safe to handle by others for cleaning purposes, you need to unload the bullets. Make sure no one touches the trigger before you unload it.

2. Don’t aim at anything which is not your target

This is the second rule, it states that your gun should be aimed in a safe direction. Assuming if unfortunately, you touched the trigger then it will get shot in a direction where no one would get hurt. So the purpose of this rule is to have precautionary steps even if the trigger gets pulled off.

Pointing the gun in a safe direction means you should not point it at any living creatures unless needed. If there’s a threat to any animal then it’s ok to aim at the animal.

3. Set aside your fingers from the trigger

This is the third rule, it states that you need to control your firearm. Don’t press the trigger unless you are ready to aim at the target. Don’t even touch the trigger. If mistakenly touched it will shoot off anywhere. So practice this rule to ensure your surroundings as well as your safety.

4. Look at what is surrounding your target from the front and back

This is the fourth rule, which states that whenever you aim at your target you should always be aware of the surroundings. Check if there are any other living creatures in front and behind your target.

Anyone who is going to participate in firearm training or going to purchase a firearm in present or in future. This introductory guide will help you to add extra knowledge about the types of bullets, materials from which they are made, and the cartridge they need.

What is a Firearm?

Firearms are used to be fired with both hands. The Rifle has a relatively long rifled barrel and a buttstock to place against the shoulder. A rifle provides great accuracy and a longer range.

Types of Bullets:

There are different types of cartridges needed for various different types of bullets. Bullets have different shapes, sizes and the amount of lead content also varies. The shape and size of a bullet depending on the material they are made from. In contrast with their diameters, bullets are also designated by their weights. In guns and ammunition calibre is known for the internal diameter as well as the length of the barrel bore.

Basic types of materials used in common handguns are:

1. Lead bullets – Some bullets are totally made out of the lead. Thus such bullets are silvery in colour and are known as cast bullets. For example, there is a cast of forty with five calibre bullets. Lead is a heavy material but soft. They come in a variety of shapes or sizes also some may have hollow points. The making of the hollow point depends on the usage of the user. For certain uses, there are specific hollow pointed bullets available. Cast bullets used for target shooting such as hunting and self-defence.

Types of cartridges used: 45 colt cartridge, 10mm auto cartridge, 357 magnum cartridge, 22 long rifle rimfire cartridge.

2. Other bullets – Other types of bullets have a thin layer on the outside cover known as a metal casing. The jacket is made up of other metals, unusually copper. Such a thin copper layer covers the lead core. Such types of bullets are known as fire jacketed bullets.

In jacketed bullets, there are several types

  • Full metal jacket (FMJ) – They cover the upper as well as sideways and also the lead core part with copper. These bullets are used mainly in military forces. It is also used in ammunition in target shooting training.

Types of cartridges used for Full metal jacket: 9mm Luger cartridge, 40 Smith & Wesson cartridge, 38 special cartridges.

  • Jacketed Soft point (JSP) – Soft point jacketed bullet leaves the upper tip point exposed to lead core. But all other sides gets jacket. This is also known as Partial jacket. Such bullets are used for hunting and self defense. The tip part as it is exposed will expand while hitting the soft tissue. eg.  41 caliber soft point bullet,

Types of cartridges used for Jacketed Soft point bullets: 44 Magnum cartridge, 10 mm auto cartridge

  • Jacketed Hollow point (JHP)  – In such a type of bullet, the tip has a hollow cavity point. Such bullets are often used for hunting and self defense. It expands outwardly on hitting the target.

Types of cartridges used for Jacketed Hollow point bullets: 45 Auto cartridge, 10 mm auto cartridge, 38 special cartridges.

There are numerous kinds of  style, size, length and types of Guns to know. There are two main categories of guns in this modern age. They are long guns and shotguns. Long guns usually include rifles and shotguns. There are different mechanisms used for each type of firearm. to pull out the bullet

1. Pistols

There are two types of pistols. It is single-shot pistol and semi-automatic handgun.

Pistols are handguns which don’t have attachable revolving cylinders. These days most of the pistols are semi-automatic one. Such pistols need to load cartridges from a detachable magazine located in the grip. New pistols with modern technology carry up to 17 rounds in a magazine. Some of the types of pistol include Glock 17 and the Army’s new M17 Modular Handgun system.

2. Revolvers

The revolvers has limit upto six to seven rounds. Revolvers used by many as it is simple and compact to get in your pockets and to carry. Mostly revolvers considers for more powerful from other types of guns like semi-automatic and shotguns. Its rotating part, known as cylinders, has six chambers. Each chamber holds a single cartridge. The ejection rod removes the empty cartridge from the chambers. Hammer is pulled back and the rotating chamber gets in for triggering a shot. This is known as cocking. Cocking the trigger is automatically pulled back. A small pressure on the trigger will shoot a bullet. Some examples of shotguns are Smith & Wesson Model 686 and the Ruger GP100.

3. Shotguns

Mostly shotguns used for hunting, Competitions and personal defence. Its shotshells get loaded into the magazine through the bottom of the receiver. The compressed magazine keeps stress loaded on it. You need to press the action bar lock. That allows the fore-end to get pulled to the front. A shell is fed into the receiver as it comes back. It automatically pushes the fore-end and lifts the shell and the bolt guides into the chamber.

Some modern shotgun examples are Mossberg 500 and Remington 870.

4. Semi-Automatic Rifles

For semi-automatic rifles, the firearm shot a bullet in a single shot each time the trigger gets squeezed. Using a semi-automatic rifle you can aim multiple targets for each round.   Most modern automatic rifles are selective fire, which means the user can fire semi-automatically if desired. For long firing from a semi-automatic, you must arrange its firing mechanism. In such a way that the weapon will fire continuously. For that, you should apply pressure on the trigger. And you need the firearm to act on the aimed target. Some semi-automatics include AR-15 and Browning Bar rifles.

5. Lever Action Rifles

Mostly lever-action firearms are rifles and some lever-action shotguns, and a few pistols. It is similar to a cowboy rifle. Lever action rifles are repeating firearms and gets activated manually. You just need to operate a cocking lever located near the trigger guard area. It triggers the pivots forward to move the bolt through internal linkages. The Internal linkages will feed and extract cartridges into or out of the barrel chamber. Prepares the hammer and striker for firing. This proceeds with repeating actions such as a bolt action, pump action. and semi-automatic or automatic selective-fire actions. Modern types of Rifles are Winchester 94 and Marlin 336.
